BECOMING A CASA PRO BONO ATTORNEY

Pro Bono Attorneys assist the 4th Judicial Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program by providing high-quality legal counsel to our volunteer Guardians ad Litem in active Child Protection Act cases to assist them while advocating for the child’s best interest. The CASA program will provide you with the training and information you need to get started. We don’t require experience in litigation or a background in child protection, but we do ask our attorneys to familiarize themselves with the child protection process.

In this role, you will need to:

  • Have an active license to practice law in the State of Idaho

  • Maintain confidentiality and regular communication with the Guardian ad Litem and CASA Program

  • Assist with filing Guardian ad Litem reports, appeals, and motions as necessary

  • Represent the Guardian ad Litem in court

  • Develop a working knowledge of the Child Protection Act (CPA) and related federal laws

  • Be familiar with the role of a Guardian ad Litem in a child protection case and the various roles of the CASA Program staff.
