STRONG CURRICULUM AND FIVE PROTECTIVE FACTORS
What are the Five Protective Factors?
Every human being has all five of these protective factors, just in different strengths. The Five Protective Factors include Social Connection, Parental Resilience, Knowledge of Parenting & Child Development, Concrete Supports in Times of Need, and Social Emotional Competency of Children. The Five Protective Factors help strengthen families and promote healthy development for children and youth. The Center of the Study of Social Policy has dived deep into the research of the Five Protective Factors.
What is The STRONG curriculum?
The Center of the Study of Social Policy's research over the past few decades prompted two Idaho women to create a curriculum designed to educate and build new skills. It is evidence/strength-based curriculum that facilitates learning to each divers learning style type. Here at Family Advocates, we have created a ten-week course using lessons from the STRONG curriculum to empower families to connect on a deeper level within their family unit, and their communities at large. Our families become a village of support for one another using the Five Protective Factors to mitigate the effects of toxic stress, thus creating environments for adults and their children to thrive.
